EMF Annual Lecture 2009 -  “Human Genetic Diversity: A British Perspective.”

Dr. Spencer Wells delivered the 2009 EMF annual lecture, entitled “Human Genetic Diversity:  A British perspective”.

The EMF lecture focused on the work that Dr. Wells has undertaken as part of the Genographic project.  Over 100 invited guests gathered to hear Dr. Wells deliver his lecture, which took place in light of the recent electoral gains made by the far-right, whose political philosophy is based upon ethnicity being the most important division amongst people.

As a social justice foundation, a key part of EMF’s work is building alliances for social justice. As countries and societies around the world undergo continual demographic change, they must wrestle with complex issues of difference, identity, religion and migration. The question of how increasingly cosmopolitan societies govern themselves in ways that respect differences whilst fostering a genuine sense of the common or public interest is a key challenge that must be addressed.  EMF believe that science has the potential to inform a great deal of social policy, and this epitomised by the work of Dr. Spencer Wells
